Not only did Compton's good kid thrill the fans with his
fiery bars in the award show's much-talked about cypher,
but K-Dot took was the night's biggest winner, taking
home five awards including the Lyricist of the Year and
Album of the Year.
Drake came in a close second, and though the Nothing
Was the Same rapper wasn't present at the show's
taping September 28 taping in Atlanta, he won four
awards including Best Hip-Hop Video for Started From
the Bottom.
Kendrick, who shared a win with absent Drizzy for the
Perfect Combo Award for their work on A$AP Rocky's
F***in' Problems, also let rip at those artists who had
criticised his controversial verse on Big Sean's Control
at the bash - targeting Drake in particular.
Lamar let it be known that all of the Toronto rapper's
masterfully dismissive comments regarding his rap didn't
kill his vibe, spitting:
"If you need me just call on me/ Hold up, wait a minute/
Your career ain't s**t unless you got some Kendrick in it,"
he rapped in a clever retort to Drake's own "Drake
featuring Drake" line, before signing off with the
declarative new title, "King Kendrick."
